About Capitol Alert

Q: Why is Capitol Alert now free?

In the past year, Capitol Alert's in-depth and ongoing political news and information have become a valuable daily resource for many political professionals. During this time, we received many requests to make Capitol Alert available for free. Now, in response to the rapidly changing online world, we are moving to open the site for advertising and will offer its content to a broader audience without a subscription fee. The new model debuts Monday, Nov. 5.

Q: Will the same information/content still be available?

Capitol Alert users will still have access to all of the blogs, exclusive Field Poll crosstabs, Congressional Quarterly's California Political Almanac and video from Capitol Television News Service. We've added a new feature to our California Clips section - hourly updates of political news, columns and blogs from across the state. We are eliminating our Early Edition section, but will still provide advance e-mail notice of stories coming in the next day's Sacramento Bee.

Q: Are other changes being made to Capitol Alert?

Enhancements are currently being made to the site, including updated navigation and the availability of advertising positions. Additional improvements will be implemented in the spring of 2008, including the ability to comment on stories and postings and a refreshed look and feel.

Q: How does Capitol Alert differ from sacbee.com/politics?

The information presented in Capitol Alert goes above and beyond the information found at sacbee.com. It is updated Monday - Friday (excluding holidays). It includes e-mail updates delivered by 6 AM and 8 PM every weekday. Key Capitol Alert features include:

  • Exclusive Field Poll crosstabs, access to Congressional Quarterly's California Political Almanac, and video from Capitol Television News Service
  • Early morning summary of the day's biggest issues and events
  • Blogs by Bee columnists
  • Email alerts as news happens throughout the day, plus updated content on the site
  • Early announcements of stories coming in the next day's Sacramento Bee
  • Hourly updated roundup of political news clips, columns and blogs

Q: I purchased an annual subscription, do I get a refund?
